How it works

Three steps. A few minutes.

Step 1

Import

Paste a Polymarket wallet address, drop in Kalshi's yearly CSVs, or both. We rebuild every position, fee and payout.

Step 2

Compare

See capital gains, Section 1256, gambling and ordinary income side by side, each with an estimated tax bill.

Step 3

File

Download your Form 8949 statement, Form 6781 worksheet, TurboTax CSV and a line-by-line guide for you or your CPA.

The honest comparison

Same trades. Four very different tax bills.

The IRS hasn't said how event contracts are taxed, so we compute every defensible treatment from the same data and show you the trade-offs.

Form 8949 + Schedule D

Capital gains

Each contract is a capital asset. Gains and losses are short- or long-term by holding period; net losses offset other gains plus up to $3,000 of ordinary income, with the rest carried forward.

Form 6781 + Schedule D

Section 1256 (60/40)

Contracts on CFTC-designated exchanges (Kalshi and the Polymarket US app) are treated like regulated futures: open positions are marked to market on Dec 31 and net gain is taxed 60% long-term / 40% short-term regardless of holding period. On-chain Polymarket trades don't qualify and stay on Form 8949.

Schedule 1 line 8b + Schedule A

Gambling

Each market (or day) is a wager. Gross winnings are income; losses are deductible only if you itemize, only up to winnings, and from 2026 only 90% of losses count.

Schedule 1 line 8z

Ordinary income

Net trading profit is reported as other income. A net loss isn't deductible unless trading is a business.

Private by design. We never see your trades.

Everything runs in your browser. Kalshi files are read on your device and Polymarket history comes straight from Polymarket's public API. No accounts, no uploads, nothing to leak. Hand the PDF and CSVs to your CPA and they can trace every number back to a trade.

Questions

Does Polymarket send me a tax form?

No. Polymarket doesn't send a 1099 for your trading, on the international site or (so far) the US app, but gains are still taxable. For on-chain accounts we read your public wallet history; for the Polymarket US app you connect a personal API key that stays in your browser.

Doesn't Kalshi send a 1099?

Not for trading profits. Kalshi issues a 1099-INT for interest and a 1099-MISC for rewards; your event-contract gains and losses only appear on a profit-and-loss statement. You still have to report them.

I trade on both. Can I combine them?

Yes. Import both and switch the view to Both: one combined report, with Polymarket and Kalshi each going on the right forms.

Which treatment should I use?

There's no official answer: the IRS hasn't issued guidance on event contracts. Capital gains is the common conservative choice; Section 1256 is the most favorable for Kalshi gains but unconfirmed; gambling treatment is usually the most expensive. We show all of them so you and your tax professional can decide.

Is my data safe?

Your files and wallet history are processed in your browser and stored only on your device. We never receive your trades. Payment is handled by Stripe.

Is this tax advice?

No. PolyTax is a calculation tool. The rules for prediction markets are unsettled, so review the results with a tax professional before filing.

See your numbers before you pay a cent.

Import your history, compare the treatments, and only unlock the forms when you're ready to file.
